I use to think building a gaming computer was hard, but the more computers I built the easier it was. If you are in the market for a new gaming computer, then listen up! I will be talking about why it is better to build a gaming computer rather than buying a pre-built one from retailers like Best Buy or Dell.
You could save a lot of money if you build your own gaming computer. You could use websites like PCPartPicker and PCSpecs to choose the parts you want for your computer build. Using PCPartPicker, I was able to build this low end computer which is using similar parts to the CyberPowerPC found on Best Buy for less money. Using PCPartPicker, I was able to build this high end computer which is using similar parts to the iBUYPOWER computer found on Best Buy for less money. These don’t include tax or shipping costs since this will be different depending on where you live.
Quality is another reason why you should build a computer rather than buying a pre-built one. Sometimes companies will use less trusted brands and cheaper quality parts for pre-built computers, which could make that computer have a shorter lifespan. If you do your research and get highly rated parts from trusted brands, your computer should last you a long time without having to get it repaired or replaced.
Now you might be thinking, “Wouldn’t it be annoying and difficult to build my own computer?” and I would reply to your thought with”Not really.” There are plenty of websites that can tell you how to build your own computer, but my favorite website would be YouTube. There are quite a few videos that show beginners step-by-step processes on how to build your own computer. Here is one of many tutorials on how to build your own computer.
If you are having issues with your computer build, you could visit subreddits like /r/pcmasterrace and /r/buildapc to post a question or find an existing solution to your problem. My friend used these resources for when he started about a year ago and he is glad that everything is working to his liking. He also didn’t find it that difficult building his computer for the first time.
Remember, if you are interested in building your own computer, make sure you do your research on the products you are wanting to purchase. Make sure they are well rated and make sure you are buying from trusted brands. The brands I have in my build are NZXT, Asus, GSkill, and MSI.
